Valtellina Superiore Inferno Riserva 2017
The sub-area of Valtellina called Inferno (“Hell”) takes this evocative name due to the heat that develops on the particularly steep and south-facing terraced vineyards; Inferno wines tend to have more pronounced tannins and a fuller body than the other Valtellina Superiore wines. The grapes of the Rainoldi’s Inferno Riserva wine come from terraces in the villages of Montagna in Valtellina, Poggiridenti and Tresivio between 350 and 550 meters above sea level. The yield is low and only the best grapes are chosen for the Riserva and only in the best vintages. Riserva is not made every year. It is a wine with a traditional, elegant and structured style, which can age for a long time with a particularly slow evolution in the bottle.
After the manual harvest, the grapes are fermented with maceration on the skins. After racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages in large barrels for two years. After bottling, the Inferno Riserva wine ages for another year in the bottle before being put on sale.
