Valtellina Superiore Grumello 2019
Grumello is a sub-area of the Valtellina Superiore DOCG appellation. The Grumello vineyards extend behind the city of Sondrio and the Grumello wines are considered the most balanced of the Valtellina. Nebbiolo, which in Valtellina is called Chiavennasca, is grown on small terraces created with dry stone walls on the side of the valley facing south between 350 and 600 meters above sea level. This altitude and the northern latitude turn into a lean and elegant Nebbiolo wine, with a more mineral than tannic taste. It is a perfect wine to enter the fascinating world of the great red wines of Valtellina.
The grapes are harvested by hand. After alcoholic fermentation with maceration on the skins, the wine ages for about 20 months in large oak barrels of 25 and 56 hectoliters.
