San Leonardo 2013 (magnum)
As a flagship wine it represents the estate San Leonardo already in its name, just as it happens for the great Châteaux of Bordeaux. Among Italian wines made with Bordeaux grape varieties it is the closest to the French style, thanks to the mild climate of the production area: the slopes of the Trentino mountains.
The first vintage of San Leonardo was in 1982 and since then it has not stopped collecting very high prizes and scores for its magnificent elegance. The blend has never changed over time: it consists of 60% Cabernet sauvignon with 10% Merlot and the original contribution of Carmenère for the remaining 30%.
Only the best grapes of the harvest are selected for San Leonardo. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in small concrete tanks, with indigenous yeasts, for about 15/18 days with various daily pumping over and délestage. The wine then matures 24 months in first, second and third passage French oak barriques.
